Italian Restaurant Recommendations

David's Favorite Asheville Restaurants

I receive many requests from buyers who aren't familiar with local restaurants, so I decided to list some of my favorite local restaurants. There are many great restaurants in Asheville, but I wanted to list of ones that I enjoy so you can enjoy them as well. These restaurants are not in any given order.

Bellagio Bistro  - 133 Weaverville Rd, Asheville, NC.

I have been going to Bellagios regularly for many years and have never had anything but an exceptional experience. The food is amazing, the wait staff is attentive, and the prices are very reasonable. The portion sizes are unbelievable for the price. They are open for lunch and dinner. If you are coming to the area, don't pass this one up. If you are a fan of ranch dressing and sweet tea (delicious), this is the place to go!

Strada - 27 Broadway St, Asheville, NC

Strada is another one of my favorite downtown Asheville Italian restaurants. The food is fantastic, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Even the smallest detail is not overlooked here. If you are looking for a great place for date night, this is it!

Vinnies Neighborhood Italian - 641 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC

You can't miss Vinnies. It's hard to find anything on the menu that isn't fantastic. The calzones are massive, and they are delicious. I wish I had one right now. Just imagine having a medium pizza filled with whatever goodness you like and fold it over like an omelet. That is how my last calzone was. When you pair that with ranch or marinara sauce, it's out of this world. Vinnies also has a pleasant atmosphere and a great bar. It would help if you came early because the secret's out.

RIP - Bonefish Bar and Grill - 105 River Hills Rd, Asheville, NC Cry

I know, I know. It's actually a seafood place; The restaurant has been permanently closed. I knew it well. This place had great lemon butter sauce that I know of next to Carrabas. The bread, fish, and especially the fish and chips were outstanding. Bonefish will miss them!

Carrabas Italian Grill - 10 Buckstone Pl, Asheville, NC

This restaurant is another favorite of mine. Might I recommend the Chicken Bryan with a side of mashed potatoes and extra lemon butter sauce on the side? This is my go-to dinner. There is no competition for their bread, oil, and herbs.

Chupacabra Latin Cafe - 50 N Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC

This place is amazing, and literally, everything that I have ever had there is great. Their chips and salsa will blow you away. Those thick tortilla chips......yum. They have the best fish and chips in town (that I know of) now that Bonefish is gone.

Stoney Knob Cafe - 337 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC

This place has a wonderful atmosphere. The decor, the lights, and the building itself is beautiful. The whole place is a work of art. There is even a mural with the little mermaid on the ceiling. The food is as good as the decor.

Universal Joint - 784 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC (West Asheville)

I went to the Universal Joint a few days ago and didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I strolled in there and picked up an order. I literally had the best buffalo chicken sandwich ever, and I try buffalo chicken sandwiches when I travel. The sandwich was just amazing. This is one of those times where you are bumming food from family members to see what everything else tastes like.

This list will be expanding over time. If you know of a great place that I missed, please leave a comment.
